A bit about Alex: She believes in the power of friendship, in sharing moments over cups of coffee and that meaningful art can help transform a house into a home. She finds inspiration in oldies music, vintage photos, and in the stories we tell.

Artist Statement

As long as I can remember I have been drawn to stories, the past and making art. As a child, I imagined hazy images as family stories were told and re-told. I often think about all the stories and moments that are lost to time. When I come across an old photograph, I wonder what that moment felt like…

Through my art, I capture the beauty of those simple moments and allow a story to unfold. Found images are transferred on to gesso and paired with painting and text. Each of these elements becomes a clue for the imagination, a mystery to solve. The colours and the brushstrokes work together to bring the feeling of that moment to life.

There is something so exciting about bringing forward what was lost or forgotten. While the real stories may escape us, spending time with these images is a way to honour those who came before and reflect on the countless beautiful moments in our own lives.
